He made it clear that lifting the league cup would give the players extra confidence moving forward.

He said: “Yes, for sure. The fact that you win that brings confidence, energy and trust at every level. When you do it once, it is easier to make the second one.

“They [players] are more convinced that we can go all the way regardless of who we play against. That is something they have to show every single day.

“Now we have to go on Saturday and do it again in the Premier League – that is not going to stop.”

Arteta stressed that belief grows when players see results follow their hard work on the pitch.

He also pointed out that confidence must be backed up with daily effort, both in matches and training.

Focus turns back to Premier League challenge

With the Carabao Cup semi final now behind them, Arsenal will shift focus back to league duties.

Their next test comes in the Premier League, as they welcome Sunderland to the Emirates Stadium. Arteta’s side currently sit six points clear at the top of the table.

They will be aiming to secure maximum points and keep their strong position intact.

Sunderland, however, have already shown they can trouble Arsenal earlier this season. The two sides played out a 2-2 draw at the Stadium of Light in their previous league meeting.

Arsenal will be determined to use their cup momentum to deliver another strong league performance.
