Declan Rice issues bold Arsenal title message after Elland Road win

0 3

Arsenal delivered a strong response with a 4-0 win over Leeds United at Elland Road in the Premier League.

The victory arrived at an important time after a run of three winless games in the league had increased pressure on the side.

Martin Zubimendi opened the scoring to settle early nerves inside the stadium. Leeds then suffered further damage when Karl Darlow turned the ball into his own net.

Viktor Gyökeres added a third goal to put the game to rest after the break. Gabriel Jesus completed the scoring later in the game to cap a convincing performance.

Rice explains the importance of Leeds’ victory

Speaking to Sky Sports after the game, Rice admitted the squad were fully aware of the pressure surrounding the fixture before kick-off.

He pointed to the recent run of three winless games as a clear reason why the result mattered.

“Off the back of the last three performances, we knew how big today was. To win 4-0 is a massive win for us.
“We can control what we can control, and we have to keep winning games and keep pushing. What will be will be.
“So far, we are top in the Premier League and won eight out of eight in the Champions League. We can’t complain about where we are. We are in a really strong position, we know as players we have a really good squad.”

His comments reflected a calm but focused mood inside the dressing room after the final whistle. Rice highlighted that Arsenal are focusing only on the results they can directly influence.

Despite the positive position, Rice suggested there is no room for complacency.

Arsenal plan approach for long title run

Rice then turned his attention to what lies ahead for Arsenal in the coming months. He described the next four months as a demanding period that will test the squad.

“Every game is a cup final. We have a long four months ahead but we are prepared. Let’s keep going and give it a good go.”

Arsenal now have 53 points from 24 Premier League games this season. The win at Elland Road keeps them seven points clear of second placed Manchester City.

Pep Guardiola’s side, however, still have a game in hand in the league standings.
