Ian Wright predicts Premier League result for Leeds vs Arsenal
Arsenal legend Ian Wright has made his Premier League prediction on the Gunners ahead of Saturday’s game against Leeds United at Elland Road.
Mikel Arteta’s side have picked up only two points from their last three league matches. They recently suffered a disappointing 3-2 loss to Manchester United. Matheus Cunha scored a late winner for the visitors at the Emirates Stadium.
The Gunners did beat Kairat Almaty by a 3-2 scoreline in the Champions League on Wednesday, but the fixture was a dead rubber. Arsenal now need to return to winning ways in the top-flight when they travel to West Yorkshire to face Leeds.
Ahead of the weekend encounter, Wright has made his prediction. Arsenal have played out two goalless draws in the last three league games, but the Gunners legend does not believe the club will repeat the unwanted feat tomorrow.
The 62-year-old has backed the Gunners to pick up a 2-0 victory over the Whites, he said on the ‘Stick to Football‘ podcast: “No, I am not giving no goals. Just gave three away, we are not giving no more. Two-nil. 2-0 to my team because they are coming back this week. Vengeance.”
Arsenal have enjoyed success against Leeds over the years. They are currently on a seven-match winning streak against them in all competitions. The Gunners won the reverse fixture at the Emirates by a 5-0 scoreline, with Viktor Gyokeres scoring a second-half brace.
We anticipate the Swede to lead the line against Leeds, while Gabriel Martinelli could keep his place too. There could be nine changes from the victory over Kairat in the final league phase game of the Champions League.
The Gunners are currently only four points ahead of Manchester City and Aston Villa, who are second and third, respectively. City are away to Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday, while an injury-hit Villa outfit host Brentford on the same day.
Arsenal can temporarily go seven points clear at the top of the standings with an eighth straight win over Leeds. It is far easier said than done. Daniel Farke’s side have vastly improved defensively since moving to a three-at-the-back system.
Leeds have suffered just a solitary loss in the last 12 matches in all competitions. They have picked up draws against Liverpool (x2) and Manchester United, while beating Chelsea. Hence, the game won’t be a cakewalk for Arsenal.
The Gunners need a quick start with a goal in Saturday’s 3pm kick-off, or Leeds could provide a difficult challenge. The Whites have been brilliant as a defensive unit at home this term, conceding just 13 goals from 11 league games.
