0 9

Renee Slegers has shared the latest Arsenal Women team news before their FIFA Women’s Champions Cup clash against AS FAR.

The Arsenal manager spoke to the media and confirmed mixed news regarding player availability for the upcoming match.

She revealed that Chloe Kelly and Frida Maanum will be included in the matchday squad, offering a timely boost.

However, defender Leah Williamson will miss the game, as her return has been slightly delayed.

Slegers also provided an update on Kyra Cooney-Cross, stressing the need for careful management.

Kelly and Maanum’s return strenghtens Arsenal squad

On team news, Slegers said:
“Chloe [Kelly] will make her comeback in the squad tomorrow, so she is available for a couple of minutes to build her back. Frida [Maanum] is back in the squad, she’s okay, she trained the full session today, so she’s fully available. For Leah [Williamson], this game comes too soon, but hopefully very soon, she’ll be back with us as well. Kyra [Cooney-Cross], she’s with us, she will be with us tomorrow, but we just have to be really smart with how we manage her and bring her back to full fitness.”

Arsenal eye historic champions cup success

Arsenal qualified for the FIFA Women’s Champions Cup following their Champions League triumph.

Their participation gives the club a chance to win the first edition of the competition.

Slegers made it clear that Arsenal aim to compete strongly across all tournaments this season.

She highlighted the importance of silverware and the special nature of the new competition.

When asked what winning the trophy would mean, Slegers said:
“We’re in four competitions and we want to go for every trophy. So, winning trophies is always going to be special for players, for me and my role as well. Like I just mentioned, it’s the first time so we can make history here. That will be very special for us.”

If Arsenal manage to overcome AS FAR, they will advance to the finals of the competition.

They would then face the winner of the match between Gotham FC and Corinthians Feminino.
