Pep Guardiola makes honest Arsenal admission amid title race
Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has spoken highly of Arsenal before his side’s Premier League match against Wolverhampton Wanderers.
City are currently second in the league standings, sitting seven points behind leaders Arsenal.
That position has earned Arsenal praise from Guardiola, who acknowledged their level ahead of the upcoming fixture.
Speaking before the match, the City boss admitted Arsenal are currently the best team in world football. He pointed to Arsenal’s strong performances across several competitions as a reason for his view.
He said: “[They are] the best team right now in the world. Look in the Champions League, Premier League, FA Cup and [EFL] Cup. Hopefully, we can be close and hope they give us one chance to get them.”
City aim to close the gap as fixtures approach
City will face Wolves at the Etihad Stadium next as they look to improve their league form and reduce the points gap.
The Manchester club will be looking to return to winning ways after a four-game winless run in the Premier League and a 3-1 Champions League defeat to Bodo/Glimt.
Wolves currently sit at the bottom of the Premier League table heading into the fixture. City will play before Arsenal, who are scheduled to face Manchester United on Sunday.
That match will take place at the Emirates Stadium, a day after City’s game against Wolves. Guardiola’s team understands that weekend results could influence the points deficit.
They will be hoping to avoid any further slip-ups as they look to stay close to Arsenal. The manager has already made clear that Arsenal set the level City are chasing.
For now, City’s attention remains on Wolves before the Gunners return to league action. Guardiola will hope his side can take advantage of their home fixture.
