Mikel Arteta provides Arsenal injury update for Forest game, 24yo star could return

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has provided a positive injury update ahead of the Premier League clash against Nottingham Forest on the road on Saturday evening.

The Gunners are six points clear of Manchester City and Aston Villa at the top of the table and have a possible chance to extend the gap with a win at the City Ground.

Ahead of the encounter, Arteta said there are no new injuries to report.

The Spanish tactician added that some of the injured players could return for the game, but did not specifically highlight who could be available tomorrow.

He told Arsenal.com: “No [on fresh injuries]. It might be, so I need to meet now with the medical staff [on injured players]. We have a training session now to see if somebody is available for the weekend. I can’t tell you.”

Piero Hincapie could return vs Forest

Out of the injured quartet, Cristhian Mosquera and Max Dowman may not return from ankle injuries for the next ‘few weeks‘ based on Arteta’s update on Tuesday.

Similarly, the manager highlighted that Riccardo Calafiori could be out for some weeks, having yet to recover from a muscle injury sustained in training last month.

Taking this into account, Piero Hincapie seems the most likely candidate to make his comeback. The 24-year-old sustained a minor groin injury against Liverpool recently.

He has not been spotted in team training in recent days, but it won’t come as a surprise if he is deemed fit to make the matchday squad against the Tricky Trees tomorrow.

Arsenal are unbeaten in the last five meetings against Forest, with four wins and one draw. The stalemate came at the City Ground last season, where the Gunners failed to score.

The club will be eyeing a victory this time around to keep up the pressure at the top of the standings.
