Arsenal now eyeing move for 23yo English star with £60m asking price
Arsenal are weighing up an approach to sign Newcastle United defender Tino Livramento at the end of the season, according to The Sun.
The Gunners are currently well-equipped in the full-back department.
Jurrien Timber is an undisputed starter at right-back, while Ben White has provided quality backup.
Riccardo Calafiori is the regular choice in the left-back role when fit. Piero Hincapie and Myles Lewis-Skelly have deputised for the Italian star.
Despite the vast options, The Sun cite that Arsenal are ready for a bidding battle with Manchester City to prise Livramento away next summer.
Magpies manager Eddie Howe considers the Englishman as a key player, but he could be sold later this year if a new deal can’t be finalised.
Livramento, who will enter the final two years of his contract in July, is reportedly valued at £60 million.
Arsenal could replace White with Livramento
White has had minimal playing time from right-back since the beginning of last season.
The former Brighton & Hove Albion man has struggled with multiple injuries, while he has faced fierce competition from Timber, who has been a revelation.
The 28-year-old’s current deal expires in June 2028. The Gunners could be tempted to sell him next summer. They could seek to recoup part of the £50m fee spent on him to find a successor.
Livramento would be an ideal replacement for Arsenal. The former Chelsea graduate is a right-back by trade, but he can comfortably operate from the opposite end too.
The 23-year-old has had a worrying injury record in the past, but it has noticeably improved. He featured in 37 league games for the Magpies in the previous campaign.
Livramento has had a couple of knee injuries during the current season, and Arsenal may want to monitor his fitness in the coming months before contemplating a move.
Based on talent alone, the Englishman would be a good signing for the Gunners. He has a passing accuracy of 89 percent in the Premier League this campaign.
He has likewise impressed with his duel-winning ability, recoveries and ability to clear his lines. It won’t be a surprise if Arsenal were to pay £60m to secure his services.
