Liverpool manager Arne Slot explains what beating Arsenal would really mean
Liverpool manager Arne Slot has spoken ahead of his side’s Premier League clash against Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium. The Dutch coach believes the fixture will provide a clear test of his team’s quality at the highest level.
The Reds head into the match knowing Arsenal currently sit six points clear at the top of the table. Mikel Arteta’s side have also remained unbeaten at the Emirates in the league this season, making the task even tougher.
Slot admitted during his pre-match press conference that a positive result in north London would mean more than just league points. He explained that such games give clear signs about a team’s level in Europe.
He said: “It would mean a lot because if you can win these games it tells you, you can compete in latter stages of the Champions League with any other team.”
Liverpool already have confidence going into the contest after defeating Arsenal earlier in the season. That result has added belief within the squad ahead of another major test against a title rival.
Slot confident after strong results this season
The Liverpool boss highlighted that his side have already shown they can match strong opponents across different competitions. He feels those performances have proven that his team belong among the elite.
Liverpool will now be aiming to complete a league double over Arsenal this season.
He added: “We have shown that already we can do this because we beat Arsenal at home and I can come up with many other games we’ve beaten strong teams, but we also know that it is a special game for them.”
Arsenal praised as complete side by Liverpool boss
When asked directly about Arsenal’s possible weaknesses, Slot made it clear that he does not see many flaws in Arteta’s team. Instead, he praised their balance and structure.
He said on Arsenal: “Interesting question, they have so many strengths, maybe that is it! Or that they don’t have many weakness, very good idea about buildup, long ball, they have the complete package and for that reason they deserve to be on top this season.”
Arsenal enter the game aiming to extend their strong run at the top of the table. A victory over Liverpool would further strengthen their position in the title race.
Both teams understand the importance of the occasion, with points carrying weight both domestically and in terms of confidence. For Liverpool, a win would prove they can challenge anyone on the biggest stages.
