Arsenal aspiring to recruit Igor Tyjon
Arsenal have had an impressive first half to the Premier League season.
The Gunners are six points clear of Manchester City at the top of the table after the latter’s 1-1 draw against Chelsea at the Etihad Stadium.
The club have won five straight league games, and the onus is on continuing the winning streak to pile the pressure on Man City and Aston Villa.
Mikel Arteta’s side appear unlikely to bolster the first-team squad with any signings, but there could be some activity at the development level.
Arsenal insider HandofArsenal reveals that the club are ‘looking to sign’ Blackburn Rovers striker Igor Tyjon, having missed out on him last summer.
The London giants made two bids, including a £2.2 million offer, which was snubbed by the Championship outfit during the last transfer window.
They are now ‘leading the race’ to sign the 17-year-old whose scholarship contract expires in June 2026.
Igor’s representatives have informed Rovers of his desire to pursue a new challenge. Arsenal are eyeing a cut-price deal of £1m for the talented marksman.
The club consider him a competitor to Andre Harriman-Annous in the academy ranks.
Arsenal poised to land Tyjon after long-term pursuit
The Gunners have been monitoring the young striker for some time. They seemed determined to sign him last summer, but could not persuade Rovers into a deal.
A third offer was not made for the 17-year-old. The club could now sign him for half the price, given he has no desire to pen a professional contract with the Lancashire outfit.
Tyjon has yet to make any meaningful impact at the senior level. He has managed just 69 minutes for Rovers, and has not featured for the club in any form this campaign.
However, the youngster has made a good impression at the Premier League 2 level. He has scored three goals and provided one assist in just three appearances this season.
Tyjon is primarily a centre-forward but has also operated as a number 10.
It looks likely that Arsenal will land him to provide more competition to Harriman-Annous upfront.
Arsenal Under-21s have had a tough Premier League 2 season, sitting 15th, 10 points behind leaders Ipswich Town. They have scored just 13 goals from eight games.
