93% passing, 100% tackles: 50-touch star was Arsenal's best player vs Aston Villa after 9/10 display, not Gabriel - view
Arsenal secured a comfortable 4-1 Premier League win over Aston Villa at the Emirates Stadium yesterday.
The Gunners suffered a last-gasp 2-1 defeat to the Villans on the road earlier this month.
Mikel Arteta’s side avenged the loss with a superb second-half display last night, scoring four goals.
Gabriel Magalhaes opened the scoring from a corner on his first start since his thigh injury last month.
The Brazil international was handed the man of the match award for his overall performance.
However, we believe Leandro Trossard was the best player on the pitch after another fine outing from the left wing.
The Belgian almost got an assist in the opening half, but Viktor Gyokeres could not find the net with a diving header.
After the break, Trossard was a constant attacking presence and eventually bagged the club’s third goal of the encounter.
The 31-year-old scored from the edge of the box after slotting into the number 10 position.
The former Brighton & Hove Albion man soon turned provider for Gabriel Jesus, who scored just 55 seconds after coming on.
Aside from his goal and assist, Trossard completed 93 percent of his passes with a long ball accuracy of 100 percent (3/3). He won 100 percent of his tackles (2/2) alongside three duels.
He also made a couple of recoveries while inducing three fouls from the opposition. The attacker received a 9/10 rating (8.9) from SofaScore for his overall performance yesterday.
Trossard, who had 50 touches against Villa, has been a revelation for the Gunners this campaign, scoring seven goals and providing six assists from 22 appearances in all competitions.
There were questions raised by a small section of the fanbase after the club made the decision to hand him a pay rise last summer without extending his contract beyond June 2027.
The decision has proved worthwhile with the Belgian stepping up with vital goal contributions. He has made the left wing position his own ahead of Gabriel Martinelli in the league.
