Strong Arsenal title belief emerges as season heats up
Arsenal defender William Saliba is confident the club can compete for every major trophy this season. The French centre-back feels the squad has grown enough to handle pressure across all competitions.
Mikel Arteta’s side currently sits top of the Premier League table after a strong run of results. They hold a two-point lead over second-placed Manchester City as the title race gathers pace.
Arsenal are also through to the semi-finals of the League Cup following a solid cup campaign so far. In Europe, they lead their Champions League group, putting themselves in a strong position before the knockouts.
With the team still active on four fronts, Saliba was asked whether the team could win several trophies this season. The defender did not shy away from the challenge and made his ambitions clear.
“Yes, of course, because we know that in every competition we play, we know we can win it.
“We have been close in the Premier League in the past three seasons, and last season we were in the semi-finals of the Champions League and the Carabao Cup, so we know that we can win every competition.”
Arsenal belief grows after recent near misses
Saliba noted that Arsenal’s recent history shows they are not far from lifting silverware.
He stressed that belief alone is not enough; strong action is required during matches.
The defender made it clear that results on the pitch must now match the squad’s growing confidence. He highlighted the League Cup semi-final as a key moment in the season.
“But we have to show that on the pitch and we have to start winning trophies now.
“We are in the semi-finals of the Carabao Cup so there are three games left for us, and we have to do the job in January against Chelsea. It will be a big game, a big derby, so we have to keep going. We know that we are close and we have to learn the lessons from last season.
“At the end of your career we count our trophies, and the Carabao Cup is one of them – and now we are in the semi-final and of course we want to win this competition, like every competition that we play.”
Focus remains key as season reaches busy stage
Despite the positive mood around the club, Saliba warned against looking too far ahead.
He admitted that football can change quickly, especially during a long and busy season.
“The mood is good but we know that we are still in December and things can happen quickly in football.
“We have to stay focused and keep believing in ourselves and keep working because what matters is at the end when we are holding the trophies and not before.
“If we have a lot of games, it means we are doing a good job so we have to keep going and hopefully the players that are injured will be back in January to help us.”
Arsenal will now turn their attention back to league action at the Emirates Stadium. They welcome Brighton and Hove Albion as they aim to keep their strong league form going.
Arteta’s side know that steady results will be vital as the season enters a demanding period. For Saliba and his teammates, the goal is clear, and the focus remains firmly on the pitch.
