Arsenal hit with two new injury concerns as Arteta reveals more

0 2

Arsenal suffered another setback ahead of their Carabao Cup quarter-final tie against Crystal Palace, with Piero Hincapie missing from the matchday squad.

The defender had been a regular presence in recent weeks. His absence was noticed before kick-off as Arsenal prepared for a tough cup test.

Hincapie had stepped into Arsenal’s defence during Gabriel Magalhaes’ absence. With Cristhian Mosquera also unavailable, his role became even more important.

The Ecuador international enjoyed a strong run in the team. He started seven matches in a row across all competitions before Tuesday night.

That run came to an end as he watched from the sidelines. Arsenal later edged past Palace on penalties after a 1-1 draw.

The win booked a Carabao Cup semi-final meeting with Chelsea. However, the victory came with further injury worries for Mikel Arteta.

Arteta explains Hincapie absence

After the match, Arteta addressed Hincapie’s absence from the squad. The Arsenal manager confirmed the defender had picked up an injury days earlier.

Hincapie suffered the problem during Arsenal’s narrow league win over Everton. As a result, he was not risked for the Palace encounter.

“With Piero, yeah, something different because he picked up an injury against Everton.”

The setback added to Arsenal’s growing list of concerns at the back. Arteta has been forced to adjust his defence several times this season.

Martinelli knock adds to Arsenal worries

Arsenal’s problems increased further during the second half against Palace. Gabriel Martinelli was unable to continue after a heavy clash.

The Brazilian collided knees with Jaydee Canvot near the end of the first half. Although he tried to carry on, discomfort forced him off later.

Arteta provided clarity on Martinelli’s situation after the match. He explained that the winger sustained a knock during the contest.

“Martinelli is more of a knock and he wasn’t comfortable to carry on after the second half,” Arteta confirmed.

The issue is not believed to be the same as Hincapie’s injury. However, it still leaves Arsenal waiting on further assessment.

Arsenal return to Premier League action on Saturday. Brighton and Hove Albion will visit the Emirates Stadium in a crucial league fixture.

The Gunners currently hold a two-point lead over Manchester City at the top. Maintaining that advantage remains a key focus for Arteta.

With Hincapie and Martinelli both carrying issues, decisions may be needed. Their involvement in the Brighton match remains unconfirmed.

Arsenal supporters will hope the injuries are not serious. The coming days will be vital as the squad prepares for another big test.
