Bukayo Saka sends clear message to rivals after huge win sends Arsenal top

0 3

Arsenal returned to the top of the Premier League table after a narrow away win against Everton on Saturday afternoon.

The Gunners secured a 1-0 victory at the Hill Dickinson Stadium, with Viktor Gyokeres calmly converting a penalty.

The result was vital for Mikel Arteta’s side after Manchester City recorded a 3-0 home win over West Ham earlier.

Despite City’s result, Bukayo Saka made it clear that Arsenal are not distracted by what happens elsewhere.

Hard-fought win against a tough Everton side

Everton made life difficult for Arsenal throughout the match, pressing well and defending with strong organisation.

After the final whistle, Saka spoke to Sky Sports and admitted the game was far from easy.

“They made it really tough. Also on us to not kill the same in certain moments but credit to them, it’s always tough coming here. An important win in the end.”

The winger felt Arsenal could have handled some moments better, but gave credit where it was due. He also praised Everton’s approach, highlighting their shape, energy, and desire across the pitch.

“They have a good structure, the intensity they played, all their players are so passionate. They gave it everything. That made it hard for us. We had our chances and could have killed the game.”

Everton stayed competitive until the final minutes, forcing Arsenal to stay focused defensively.

Saka dismisses City pressure as Arsenal go

Pep Guardiola’s side briefly moved to the top of the table before Arsenal’s kick-off, increasing pressure on Arsenal to respond.

However, Saka insisted that the team removed emotion from the situation and stayed focused on their task.

Speaking about City’s earlier win, the England international played down its importance.

“There’s not really any emotion in it. We take the emotion out. We know we’re focused on our job this week. We know we are focused on winning here. We’re back on top of the table, but we’re not watching City too much. We know if we win every week, we stay there.”

Arsenal’s win moves them onto 39 points, two clear of City in second place. The league table now reflects Arsenal’s strong and consistent form this season.

Attention will quickly turn to their next fixture as momentum continues to build. The Gunners will welcome Crystal Palace to the Emirates Stadium for the Carabao Cup quarter-final on Tuesday, before hosting Brighton and Aston Villa in quick succession on 27th and 30th December to close out the year.
