11/11 duels, 90% passing, 2 recoveries: 63-touch star was Arsenal's best player vs Wolves after dazzling display
Arsenal went five points clear at the top of the Premier League after a 2-1 win over Wolverhampton Wanderers at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday.
The Gunners were firm favourites to beat Rob Edwards’ side with home advantage, but they had to work hard for the result after some resolute defending from the visitors.
Bukayo Saka was the game-changer with two quality crosses into the box. The first of those from a corner contributed to goalkeeper Sam Johnstone scoring an own goal.
Tolu Arokodare scored a surprise late equaliser, but Wolves’ hard work was undone as Yerson Mosquera scored an own goal from Saka’s cross intended for Gabriel Jesus in the 94th minute.
The Gunners got out of jail with the help of two own goals. There was plenty of good luck involved, but Saka was the architect with two fine deliveries into the box.
Saka should have had another assist in our opinion. The Englishman put the ball on the plate in the six-yard box, but Viktor Gyokeres could not find the crucial touch to score.
Aside from his goal involvements, the 24-year-old won 11 out of 11 duels contested (100 percent). He also completed 100 percent of his dribbles (4/4) with two recoveries.
Saka was excellent with the ball at his feet too. He had 63 touches over the course of the game and completed 90 percent of his passes, delivering five accurate crosses.
The right-sided winger was the Gunners’ best player on the night by a stretch. He singlehandedly secured the victory for Arsenal, though with plenty of luck through own goals.
Mikel Arteta’s side have now moved five points clear of Manchester City and six in front of Aston Villa, who face Crystal Palace and West Ham United respectively today.
The Gunners will be hoping that one or both of those teams drop points on the road.
