Mikel Arteta could now start £44m Arsenal star in new position, scored four times vs Wolves

Arsenal host Wolverhampton Wanderers in Saturday’s late Premier League kick-off.

Ahead of the game, manager Mikel Arteta is likely to make multiple changes to the starting XI from the 3-0 win over Club Brugge in the Champions League.

Noni Madueke was phenomenal on Wednesday evening, netting his maiden brace for the Gunners. He opened the scoring with a sensational long-range goal.

The 23-year-old had a perfect game from the right wing before Bukayo Saka replaced him.

Saka has been an ever-present in the position over the years when fit, and the Englishman is poised to reclaim a starting role against Wolves this weekend.

Still, Madueke has a strong chance of making the XI from the opposite flank.

Leandro Trossard has been a revelation from the left wing this campaign. He has accumulated six goals and five assists from just 17 appearances in the role.

However, he remains doubtful to face Wolves, having picked up a fresh knock to his calf during the last-gasp 2-1 defeat to Aston Villa in the league last weekend.

If the Belgian is not deemed fit, one of Madueke or Gabriel Martinelli could get the nod on the left wing ahead of Eberechi Eze, who has struggled as a left winger.

Martinelli entered Arsenal’s history books yesterday as he became the first-ever Gunners player to score in five consecutive Champions League appearances.

Like Madueke, the 24-year-old scored with a stellar curling effort from outside the box.

Among the two, Arteta could go with Madueke on the left wing based on current form. The former Chelsea man has three goals in his last two European games compared to Martinelli’s two.

Madueke has not quite made his mark as a left winger at Arsenal, but the temptation will be there to start him, given he has an excellent record against Wolves too.

The £44 million ace has four goals in his three meetings against the West Midlands outfit. In comparison, Martinelli has not scored in his eight previous encounters.

Hence, it won’t come as a surprise if Madueke gets the nod on the left wing.
