"It is amazing": Ian Wright blown away by Arsenal star who completed 100% dribbles vs Tottenham
Arsenal secured a convincing 4-1 win over Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League on Sunday.
The Gunners went into the north London derby with a three-point lead over Chelsea at the top of the table and extended their advantage to six points with a comfortable victory at the Emirates Stadium.
Eberechi Eze was the star of the show with a maiden career hat-trick. It was the first hat-trick in the north London derby during the Premier League era, the last having come in 1978.
Speaking after the game, Gunners legend Ian Wright was full of praise for Eze. He said that it is amazing what he has done, and he may not realise it until the current season concludes.
He told Premier League productions: “When I signed for Arsenal, like I said, me and David Rocastle spoke hours about what it’s like to play for Tottenham.
“I didn’t dream of scoring a hat-trick because that would have been too much; just to get one goal in my first game against Spurs would’ve been great.
“But for him, with everything he has been through, to score a hat-trick on his north London Derby debut.
“It is amazing. Especially in this season, the season where question marks are still around him as he settled in properly, he’s still trying to find his way in the Arsenal side, and you know, that will just help him.
“It is the kind of thing he has achieved. I don’t think he’ll realise till this season’s over, hopefully Arsenal would’ve won the league.”
Aside from his stellar hat-trick, Eze completed 100 percent of his dribbles (3/3). He was also effective in duels and won an impressive seven out of 10 contested in the derby.
Eze lost possession on just seven occasions and made up for the same with four recoveries and two interceptions. It was a brilliant all-round display from the Englishman.
The 27-year-old has now registered eight goal contributions from 18 appearances in his debut season at Arsenal. He is starting to produce his best from the number 10 position.
Gunners skipper Martin Odegaard has been an undisputed starter in the role over the years. The Norwegian is not far away from making his return to first-team action after injury.
Manager Mikel Arteta has a good selection headache on his hands. Odegaard may ultimately return to the starting XI, and we could see Eze operating from the left side of the attack.
