“it’s over already” – Pundit delivers bold Arsenal title message after latest win

Sky Sports pundit Paul Merson has claimed that no team in the Premier League looks capable of stopping Arsenal this season.

The Gunners moved four points clear at the top of the table after a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Oliver Glasner’s Crystal Palace side. Their recent form has strengthened their position as early favourites in the title race.

Merson, a former Arsenal player, compared Mikel Arteta’s current squad to José Mourinho’s dominant Chelsea side on Sky Sports.

He described the team as being full of “super footballers” who operate with precision and confidence.

“I do not see anyone stopping Arsenal,” Merson said. “They are an efficient machine but with super footballers in that machine.”

Compared to Mourinho’s Chelsea

The former midfielder went on to highlight the similarities between Arsenal and Mourinho’s famous Chelsea team.

He explained how both sides showed complete control once they gained a lead, leaving opponents without hope.

“They remind me of the Chelsea team of old under Jose Mourinho,” he continued. “As soon as that Chelsea team got in front it was game over. It was the same playing in my Arsenal team. Get a goal and it was back to the halfway line, and you could see in the opposition faces, they knew it was over.”

Merson recalled watching Arsenal’s recent European fixture against Atletico Madrid, noting that their defensive control mirrored that same dominance.

“I saw that last Wednesday watching Atletico Madrid at the Emirates,” he added. “Once Arsenal got that lead it was the end of the game and Atletico knew it. That is the feeling you have with Arsenal now. Teams are not even getting a shot. The numbers they are producing defensively are unheard of.”

He further praised their structure and balance, pointing out that the team blends defensive solidity with creative flair.

“They are well-drilled, efficient and they do have flair players that can create and score goals, just like Mourinho’s Chelsea did. I’d be flabbergasted if Arsenal did not win the league,” he said.

Confidence in Arsenal’s title push

Merson believes Arsenal’s defensive strength gives them an edge in tight games.

“People will say there are 30 games left but we are only a once-in-a-season strike from Dominik Szoboszlai from asking the question: ‘Who beats Arsenal this season?’” he explained.

“They have the best defensive record in the whole of Europe, so you do not have to score multiple goals to win football matches. One goal will do for Arsenal and what a feeling that must be for the forwards.”

After coming close to the title in the past three seasons, Arsenal are now pushing to finally get over the line.

They face Brighton and Hove Albion next in the EFL Cup at the Emirates Stadium as they continue their pursuit of major silverware.
