'They are going': Neville makes big Premier League title prediction on Arsenal after Man City & Liverpool lose

0 2

Arsenal extended their lead at the top of the Premier League following a 1-0 win over Crystal Palace at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday.

The Gunners shared the spoils against the Eagles during the same fixture earlier this year, but they managed to make amends with a victory yesterday.

Eberechi Eze made the headlines with a fabulous winning goal in the opening half, but Gabriel Magalhaes was equally brilliant in the heart of the defence.

In the process, Arsenal have moved four points ahead of second-placed Bournemouth in the table.

They are now six and seven points ahead of title contenders Manchester City and Liverpool after the duo suffered defeats to Aston Villa and Brentford away.

Speaking after the Gunners’ 1-0 victory, Manchester United legend Gary Neville said this has got to be Arsenal’s year and they may not even require 100 or 90 points to lift a long-awaited league title.

The former right-back believes the Gunners could seal the league with a points tally in the high 80s, he told Sky Sports: “This has got to be their year. I’ve had Arsenal to win the league the last three years – now four.

“They aren’t miles better than last year but are repeating levels of consistency and that’s all they are going to have to do this year to win the league. They aren’t going to have to get 100 points, or even 90. “High 80s will win the title – they can do that.”

Arsenal handed early advantage in title pursuit

The Gunners have been handed an early advantage in the title pursuit. They have a healthy lead over their main rivals in City and Liverpool, but can’t afford to be complacent going forward.

Arsenal take on newly-promoted Burnley and Sunderland on the road before the international break. Both teams possess stubborn defences. The Gunners face a tricky challenge against them.

On paper, the London giants should win comfortably in the upcoming away trips, but recent results suggest that the Clarets and Black Cats are unlikely to prove a straightforward opposition.

Burnley only lost to Manchester United and Liverpool after conceding late penalties. Sunderland recently secured a hard-fought 2-1 win over Chelsea at Stamford Bridge to move fourth in the league.

If Arsenal were to beat both teams, they could potentially extend the gap over City and Liverpool, who face each other at the Etihad Stadium before the final international break of the year.

City and Liverpool host Bournemouth and Aston Villa prior to that. There is a good chance Arsenal will have a larger points advantage over their primary title challengers before the break.
