Alongside Dowman, 2 Arsenal players are poised to make full debuts vs Port Vale
Arsenal salvaged a point against Manchester City in the Premier League on Sunday.
The Gunners toiled hard for the equaliser, which Gabriel Martinelli eventually scored in stoppage time.
The club will now turn their attention to the third round of the Carabao Cup against Port Vale.
Mikel Arteta’s side will be at Vale Park on Wednesday, and there are expected to be wholesale changes.
Max Dowman appears set for his full debut for the Gunners on the right wing, given Noni Madueke is out with a knee injury, while Bukayo Saka could be rested, having just recovered from a hamstring issue.
Alongside the 15-year-old, there should be a maiden appearance for goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga. The Spaniard has been waiting in the wings as David Raya’s deputy. He should finally make his Gunners debut between the sticks.
Christian Norgaard is likewise expected to feature. He had a cameo against Athletic Bilbao last week and should make his first start for the Gunners, replacing Martin Zubimendi in the number six position.
Piero Hincapie is another candidate for a maiden start, but the Ecuador international is a doubt for the game. Manager Mikel Arteta said that he was not fit enough to be involved on the bench on Sunday.
Arsenal have had a tough start to the campaign with a difficult schedule in the Premier League. They have fared decently with 10 points from five games, while beating Athletic on the road in Europe.
Wednesday’s game against Port Vale should be an easy challenge for the Gunners, but they must be wary of complacency after Grimsby Town’s surprise penalty shoot-out win over Manchester United.
Arteta has a big squad at his disposal after the huge summer spending spree. Myles Lewis-Skelly, Gabriel Martinelli, Eberechi Eze, Ethan Nwaneri and Christian Mosquera should also make the XI in midweek.
Martinelli could lead the line against Port Vale with Viktor Gyokeres and Mikel Merino being rested.
