Theo Walcott confident Arsenal can win the Champions League this season because of two players
Arsenal kick off their 2025-26 Champions League campaign tonight when they play Athletic Bilbao in Spain, and manager Mikel Arteta and his men will look to begin the new European season with a victory.
The Gunners reached the semi-finals of the elite European competition last term, losing 3-1 on aggregate to Paris Saint-Germain.
Arsenal have plans to go one better this season, and Theo Walcott is confident they have what it takes to win the Champions League this term after recruiting during the summer transfer window.
The North London club signed Viktor Gyokeres, Noni Madueke, Cristhian Mosquera, Kepa Arrizabalaga, Martin Zubimendi, Christian Norgaard, Eberechi Eze and, Piero Hincapie, and Arteta has enough quality depth across Cal positions.
“Arsenal are more equipped to win this now,” Walcott said on It’s Called Soccer!
“They have got their personnel. I am going for Arsenal. Gyokeres is the difference in this, and Eze. I’m looking forward to seeing Eze in the Champs.”
Gyokeres and Eze combined to score the second goal in the 3-0 demolition of Nottingham Forest on Saturday, with the former Crystal Palace star delivering a perfect cross for the Swede.
The attacking duo have improved Arsenal in the final third and will make the Gunners more lethal in front of goal going forward.
The assist was Eze’s first involvement in a goal in the Gunners’ colours, while Gyokeres has three goals since moving to the club from Sporting CP.
They will both be playing tonight and will be looking forward to putting Bilbao to the sword.
Arsenal are without Bukayo Saka and Martin Odegaard for the game, but the fans are not worried, which is a testament to the quality depth the squad now boast.
French international centre-back William Saliba could also miss out tonight, but Mosquera and Hincapie are both ready to step up, and Arteta will have no excuses if Arsenal fail to win a major silverware this term.
