11 recoveries, 9 duels won, 8 key passes: 135-touch Arsenal star was back to his best on Int'l duty
Arsenal captain Martin Odegaard delivered a scintillating performance during Norway’s 11-1 rout of Moldova in a World Cup qualifier on Tuesday.
Norway were clear favourites to beat Moldova with home advantage, but no one would have predicted the sensational scoreline at the Ullevaal Stadion.
Odegaard played a big role in the game with two assists and a goal in the opening half.
Aside from his goal contributions, Odegaard had 135 touches with 88 passes completed.
The 26-year-old made 11 recoveries, won nine duels and registered eight key passes.
It was a perfect game for the Gunners skipper, who earned a 10/10 rating from Sofascore.
Odegaard has had a tough start to the campaign with Arsenal on the back of picking up a shoulder injury during the opening half against Leeds United.
He was only a late substitute in the 1-0 loss to Liverpool. The Gunners would have posed a much bigger attacking threat had he started from the off at Anfield.
Odegaard recently clarified that his shoulder is ‘under control‘. He was back to his best against Moldova, and it is a no-brainer to start him at the weekend.
Arsenal resume their Premier League campaign by hosting Nottingham Forest on Saturday afternoon.
It promises to be an exciting affair, and there should be plenty of goals. Forest have just announced Ange Postecoglou as their new manager, replacing Nuno Espirito Santo.
The Australian likes to play with an attacking tactical mindset. This could play into the Gunners’ hands and allow Odegaard to create more chances for Viktor Gyokeres upfront.
Odegaard bagged a couple of assists for Erling Haaland last night. Arsenal fans will expect more of the same from him for the club’s leading marksman this weekend.
