How Arsenal striker Viktor Gyokeres performed for Sweden in World Cup qualifier vs Kosovo

0 5

Arsenal striker Viktor Gyokeres had a forgettable outing during Sweden’s surprise 2-0 defeat to Kosovo in a World Cup qualifier on Monday night.

The 27-year-old signed for the Gunners from Sporting CP this summer, and he has already scored a couple of goals in the Premier League.

However, Gyokeres did not have the best of international breaks. He only provided an assist in Sweden’s disappointing 2-2 draw against Slovenia.

Against Kosovo, the Gunners ace had a difficult outing on the road. He provided a couple of key passes but was largely ineffective in the final third.

Gyokeres won just four out of 10 duels contested. He lost possession on 17 occasions. He completed 19 passes from 44 touches with one shot on target.

Kosovo picked up a shock 2-0 win over Sweden. Alexander Isak, who came off the bench for the final 18 minutes, had more shots on target than Gyokeres (3).

Gyokeres has had a mixed start to his Arsenal career. He had a goalless and nervous debut at Manchester United before bagging a brace against Leeds United.

The Swede barely had a chance at Liverpool before the international break and needs to step up when the Gunners host Nottingham Forest on Saturday afternoon.

Gyokeres had an average international break with his national side, but Arsenal will be hoping for a quick upturn in his form with a crucial set of fixtures coming up.

The Gunners face Forest, Manchester City and Newcastle United in their next league three fixtures with a Champions League trip to Athletic Bilbao in between.

Gyokeres needs to deliver with top-notch performances with Kai Havertz injured. Mikel Merino’s scoring form means the Swede can’t afford to take his place for granted.
