Arsenal agree deal for eighth summer signing - report

0 9

Arsenal have agreed a deal with Bayer Leverkusen to sign defender Piero Hincapie on loan with an obligation to buy, according to The Athletic’s David Ornstein.

The agreement will see the Gunners pay €52 million in total, with a 10 per cent sell-on clause included as part of the transfer package.

The 23-year-old has already settled personal terms. He is expected to sign a five-year contract when the move becomes permanent next summer.

Mikel Arteta has been focused on reinforcing his back line and has already brought in Cristhian Mosquera from Valencia earlier in the transfer window.

Hincapie is scheduled to travel to London from Leverkusen this weekend to undergo medical tests before putting pen to paper on a long-term deal.

His arrival will clear the way for Jakub Kiwior to join Porto in a deal worth €25 million, which could eventually rise to €27 million.

Eighth signing of the summer

The addition of Hincapie will make him Arsenal’s eighth signing of the summer window, joining Kepa Arrizabalaga, Martin Zubimendi, Noni Madueke, Christian Nørgaard, Cristhian Mosquera, Viktor Gyökeres and Eberechi Eze.

Arsenal have tracked Hincapie for several years, with the Ecuadorian featuring high on their list of defensive targets to add quality and depth.

The left-footed centre-back is capable of operating in central defence but can also be deployed as a left-back, offering Arteta further flexibility.

Hincapie moved to Leverkusen in 2021 from Argentinian side CA Talleres and has since become one of the Bundesliga’s most reliable defenders.

Over his four seasons in Germany, he played 166 matches for Leverkusen, showing his consistency and value in one of Europe’s toughest leagues.

On the international stage, he has already earned 46 caps for Ecuador, underlining his growing importance and experience at the highest level.

Despite speculation about his future, he featured in Leverkusen’s opening two matches of the 2025/26 campaign before Arsenal stepped up their pursuit.

Arteta will now hope Hincapie strengthens Arsenal’s defensive line as they aim to compete for major silverware this campaign.
