Arsenal picked up a 5-0 win over Leeds United at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday evening.
The Gunners were frontrunners for the game, but it was far from straightforward in the first half.
Jurrien Timber eventually broke the deadlock from a corner in the 34th minute before Bukayo Saka doubled the lead.
Shortly after the break, Viktor Gyokeres scored his maiden goal for the Gunners after a fantastic trademark run.
Timber bagged his second from another corner before Gyokeres put the gloss on the display by scoring a late penalty.
Arsenal have climbed to the top of the table with the victory. There were no surprises that Timber was adjudged the man of the match.
The Dutchman scored two goals on the day, and also bagged the assist for Saka’s powerful right-footed strike in first-half stoppage time.
He was also brilliant with other attributes. He had 57 touches and completed 92 percent of his passes. He also won six duels and one tackle.
Timber was a late substitute against Manchester United for the curtain-raiser, but got the nod in the XI with Ben White being sidelined.
He certainly made the most of the opportunity. Sofascore handed him a 10/10 rating for his superb all-round performance against Leeds.
Arsenal have had a perfect start to the new campaign, and now need to carry on the good form when they visit Liverpool next weekend.
The Gunners have not won a league game at Anfield since September 2012, and can make a big title statement with a victory this time.
Manager Mikel Arteta already has a selection headache for the game, with Martin Odegaard and Bukayo Saka picking up injuries yesterday.
The Spaniard acknowledged that Saka’s hamstring injury could be a ‘significant’ one. We should get a further update in the next few days.
