Arsenal Set to Overtake Man United in Sponsorship Revenue After 97% Increase
Arsenal’s bid to generate more revenue from their commercial activities has gathered significant pace over the past few years.
The Gunners recorded a 97 percent increase in commercial revenue from 2018/19 to 2023/24, according to research by Football Benchmark.
That growth is more in percentage terms than all of their so-called ‘Big Six’ rivals, albeit their start point was lower than those clubs.
Arsenal | 97% increase |
Tottenham Hotspur | 89% increase |
Liverpool | 64% increase |
Manchester City | 54% increase |
Chelsea | 22% increase |
Manchester United | 10% increase |
While the figures undoubtedly paint a positive picture for Arsenal, the landscape may look even healthier when the 2025/26 season is taken into account.
The Gunners are on course to generate more sponsorship revenue than Manchester United for the first time in the modern era this term.
Their primary sponsorship deals are worth £164 million, which is £4 million more than the Red Devils will generate over the season.
Man United’s lack of on-pitch success has caused their overall commercial revenues to stagnate, and allowed Manchester City and Liverpool to move ahead of them in this metric.
The club generated £302m of commercial revenue in 2023/24, less than Manchester City (£349m) and Liverpool (£308m).
Having laid solid foundations over the past few years, Arsenal are now well-positioned to improve their commercial revenues.
They are entering the final year of their sleeve sponsorship with Visit Rwanda and will renegotiate the deal at a much higher rate.
Participation in the Champions League has made Arsenal a more attractive proposition to sponsors, which will boost their commercial revenues over the next few years.
However, as evidenced by Man City and Liverpool usurping United’s commercial returns, on-pitch success can have a major impact on the overall figures.
Arsenal have not won major silverware since lifting the FA Cup in 2019/20 and are desperate to snap that streak this season.
If they achieve the feat and keep winning over the next few years, the club could close the commercial revenue gap even more on their main rivals.
