Arsenal may not sign Eze due to Liverpool's move for 25yo star
Arsenal have had a productive transfer window with six signings thus far.
There has been a spending spree of £200 million on new recruits, and it could extend depending on player sales.
It is well known that the Gunners want to sign Crystal Palace’s Eberechi Eze, but they may need to be quick in their pursuit.
Eze’s £68 million release clause expired on August 1, but Palace are ready to hold out for a similar fee going forward.
The Eagles will reportedly demand an initial £35m with the remaining to be paid in instalments.
In our opinion, the Gunners need to speed up their pursuit, considering Liverpool’s continued interest in Palace’s Marc Guehi.
The Eagles captain has entered the last year of his deal, and Palace could lean towards sanctioning his sale rather than lose him on a free transfer.
The Telegraph report that the Reds have a free run at signing the 25-year-old, with Chelsea and Newcastle United no longer keen on his services.
The Reds are reluctant to meet Palace’s £40m asking price for Guehi due to his contract status, but the scenario could yet change.
Arsenal must be wary of the situation, considering the Eagles may not want to lose Guehi and Eze during the same transfer window.
If Guehi were to move to the Reds first, it could prove a big roadblock for the Gunners in their bid to bring Eze back to the club.
Palace could easily close the door on Eze’s exit or demand a more significant transfer fee.
Hence, Arsenal must be proactive to land Eze. They can’t afford to play the waiting game.
Player sales are essential to balance the financial books, but they should prioritise a deal for Eze first before trying to recoup funds.
