Arsenal star got injured & needed surgery after clocking sprint speed of around 35kph
Arsenal defender Gabriel Magalhaes required hamstring surgery after clocking a sprint speed of around 35kph back in April, according to the Sun.
The Gunners star was trying to catch Adama Traore in the 2-1 win over Fulham, but it proved costly as he was unable to continue the game and was eventually ruled out of the 2024-25 campaign.
Gabriel had not sprinted that fast for weeks before that game having spent a period back home in Brazil on international duty.
Sitting on a plane for hours on his way back to London from South America also did not help, and he will hope to avoid any form of injuries next season.
The 27-year-old was not able to feature for Arsenal on their pre-season tour of Asia after feeling a niggle in training, missing out on action against AC Milan, Newcastle United and Tottenham Hotspur.
However, Gabriel featured for the Gunners in a behind-closed-doors training ground friendly at London Colney against Watford on July 19, playing for 45 minutes.
The North Londoners are back in action on Wednesday when they take on Villarreal before playing Athletic Bilbao next Saturday in their last game of pre-season, and it remains to be seen whether Gabriel will feature in any of them.
However, Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has claimed he will be available when they travel to Old Trafford to face Manchester United in their first Premier League game of 2025-26 on April 17.
The duo of Jakub Kiwior and Cristhian Mosquera have partnered with William Saliba at the back in the absence of Gabriel, and they will fancy their chances of impressing if he does not return in time for the opening game of the new season.
Arteta will be praying he is fit and fully ready to start the campaign given his huge quality and importance in the team, and things could have been different in the Champions League for them last season had he been available to face Paris Saint-Germain in the semi-finals.
