Arsenal star's injury now blocking transfer, winter move may be likelier
Arsenal have made a significant outlay of £200 million on signings this summer, and they will need to recoup funds for another potential arrival.
Gabriel Jesus has been one of those linked with a summer exit, but the Brazil international has not received a genuine transfer offer thus far.
According to Brazilian journalist Jorge Nicola, Palmeiras have no interest whatsoever in Jesus, having spent big to re-sign Vitor Roque from Barcelona.
Roque has a similar profile to Jesus when it comes to the playing style and has yet to justify his price tag (£21.6 million). Hence, they are not keen on a reunion.
Meanwhile, Flamengo have likewise distanced themselves from the versatile forward. The Brazilian outfit want a striker now rather than a few months down the line.
Jesus has been on the sidelines since January due to a knee injury. He is not anticipated to return until October and may take several months to get up to full speed.
Jesus more likely to depart Arsenal in January
The Gunners are eyeing a late summer swoop for Crystal Palace’s Eberechi Eze. He has a £67.5 million release clause, and Palace want at least £35m upfront for him.
Arsenal’s prospects of landing the Englishman could directly depend on player sales. Leandro Trossard has been touted to leave, but that appears doubtful as well.
The Belgian, who is on the radar of Borussia Dortmund and Premier League clubs, picked up an apparent groin injury against Tottenham Hotspur and may need to be assessed.
Arsenal have opened the door for Jesus’ exit, but no clubs have come forward to recruit him. Flamengo seemed the most interested, but they have distanced themselves of late.
The decision is justifiable, considering Jesus may take several games to find his rhythm. Clubs could pursue his signature in January based on his progress at Arsenal.
Still, Jesus’ wages are on the higher side at £265,000 per week. He will have to accept a massive pay cut. Arsenal seem most likely to reassess his situation next winter.
