Arsenal defender Riccardo Calafiori has taken to social media platform Instagram to provide an immediate update after he picked up a knock against Newcastle United in the friendly today.
The Gunners secured a 3-2 victory over the Magpies, with goals from Mikel Merino and Martin Odegaard either side of an own goal from Newcastle getting the job done, but manager Mikel Arteta could be left sweating over the fitness of the Italy international.
Calafiori was forced off due to an injury shortly after half-time, with Jakub Kiwior replacing him in the 49th minute, and the Arsenal star posted this on Instagram shortly after the game.
The 23-year-old struggled with injuries last term, making 29 appearances across all competitions as a result, and the North London club will be praying he has not picked up a serious knock three weeks into the new season.
Calafiori missed 181 days to injuries last season, and Arsenal cannot afford to have such a quality defender pick up a knock this early into their pre-season preparations.
His injury history is a cause for concern, and the arrival of Cristhian Mosquera will come in handy in terms of quality depth and cover at the back as the versatile Spaniard can play across the backline.
The Gunners are back in action on Thursday when they face Tottenham Hotspur before completing their tour against Villarreal on August 6.
They return to England to face Athletic Bilbao three days later in the Emirates Cup final at Emirates Stadium, and fans will be watching to see if Calafiori will be featuring in any of those games.
Arsenal kick off the 2025-26 campaign with a trip to Old Trafford to take on Manchester United on August 17, and they will be desperate to hit the ground running and avoid any key injuries in the build-up to the season opener.
