Arsenal transfer for key La Liga acquisition now 'very advanced'

0 2

Arsenal are on the verge of completing a deal for Valencia defender Cristhian Mosquera, with negotiations now moving swiftly after appearing to stall earlier in the window.

The 21-year-old has already agreed personal terms with the Gunners and remains fully committed to the switch, having turned down a contract extension from his current club.

Talks between Arsenal and Valencia have accelerated in recent days, and there is growing confidence that an agreement can be finalised soon.

The Spanish centre-back has been pushing for the move behind the scenes, and his stance has helped to reignite discussions after Arsenal’s opening approach was knocked back.

Arsenal see Mosquera as a key addition to their defensive group, offering competition and depth behind the established pairing of William Saliba and Gabriel Magalhaes.

He is admired not only for his composure in possession and positional maturity but also for the versatility that allows him to slot in across the backline when required.

The Gunners had previously considered other centre-back options earlier in the summer but have remained focused on Mosquera as their primary target in the position.

There was concern that Arsenal might walk away from the deal when progress slowed, especially with Mosquera having returned to pre-season training with Valencia.

But his clear desire to join Mikel Arteta’s project and the club’s ongoing efforts have brought the transfer back to the fore.

Arsenal have already completed deals for Martin Zubimendi, Christian Norgaard and Kepa Arrizabalaga and are close to completing deals for Noni Madueke and Viktor Gyokeres.

The squad has seen some reshaping in defence, with Takehiro Tomiyasu leaving the club earlier this month.

Mosquera’s arrival would add further cover alongside Jakub Kiwior, Ben White, Jurrien Timber and Riccardo Calafiori.

The Gunners are aware that maintaining depth at centre-back will be crucial over a long season, especially as they look to compete strongly on multiple fronts.

While nothing has been signed yet, the deal is now considered to be at an advanced point, and all sides are optimistic that it will be completed shortly.

Mosquera, for his part, is waiting patiently – and may soon get his wish to become an Arsenal player.
