Arsenal target all smiles as he finally resumes pre-season amid stalled Gunners move - Photo
Arsenal want to sign Valencia defender Cristhian Mosquera this summer and he is keen on a move to the Emirates Stadium club despite the La Liga club offering him a new contract.
The Gunners have seen their bids for the Spaniard knocked back and it remains to be seen whether they have plans to return with an improved bid in the coming weeks.
The move for him has stalled at the moment and Mosquera has now resumed pre-season preparations with Valencia after an extended break following his participation in the European under-21 Championship with his country.
The 21-year-old was pictured smiling in training with his teammates, and the La Liga club did not hesitate to upload it on social media platform X earlier today.
Mosquera would still love to join Arsenal even though he would be playing second fiddle to the duo of Gabriel Magalhaes and William Saliba, but getting a deal done has proven tricky and he could be spending next season with his childhood club.
He is happy to continue playing for them and will not be going on strike like Sporting CP striker Viktor Gyokeres.
The Gunners have the likes of Jakub Kiwior and Ben White available to provide cover for their first-choice centre-back pairing, and manager Mikel Arteta could opt to stick with them and not sign Mosquera if neither of them leaves this summer.
Arsenal have also added two defensive midfielders to their squad – Christian Norgaard and Martin Zubimendi – and they could be available to provide the team with options at centre-backs alongside the likes of Declan Rice and Mikel Merino should it ever come to that.
The Gunners have released Kieran Tierney and Takehiro Tomiyasu, while Oleksandr Zinchenko could also look to move on, but Arteta appears satisfied with his defensive options and could look to promote from the youth ranks if a move for Mosquera does not go through this summer.
