Arsenal consider "reactivating talks" to sign £86m star as meeting planned - report
Arsenal are likely to focus on strengthening the forward department in the coming weeks.
The Gunners have had a good beginning to the summer transfer window with three signings.
They have already confirmed the arrivals of Kepa Arrizabalaga, Martin Zubimendi and Christian Norgaard.
The focus is now expected to shift to the attacking department, and UOL Esporte claim that Arsenal maintain an interest in signing Real Madrid forward Rodrygo.
The Gunners are studying the possibility of ‘reactivating talks’ for the Brazil international based on Real Madrid’s stance.
Rodrygo’s representatives are due to hold a meeting with Los Blancos to clarify the attacker’s future. The Brazilian is said to be keen on playing on the left wing.
Madrid reportedly value the 24-year-old at around £86 million, but it is claimed that the overall package could be much higher with performance add-ons included.
Arsenal may seek a discount to sign Rodrygo
The Gunners are adopting a cautious approach with their spending this summer. They are in advanced negotiations with Sporting CP for Viktor Gyokeres, but have yet to meet the price.
There is presently a £4.3m difference in the fixed fee, which has stalled the pursuit. With this in mind, we would be surprised if Arsenal are prepared to pay £86m plus to purchase Rodrygo.
Rodrygo had a fine 2024/25 campaign with 25 goal contributions. He was most successful from the left wing for Los Blancos last term with 12 goal involvements from as many matches.
The Brazilian is not guaranteed the position at Madrid due to Vinicius Junior’s presence. Since the appointment of manager Xabi Alonso, Rodrygo has also been a regular unused substitute.
He is no longer an assured starter on the right wing either. We believe Arsenal could play the waiting game in pursuit of the Brazilian star, hoping to secure a discount later this summer.
Rodrygo has the preference to move to the Premier League and considers Arsenal as an ‘absolute priority‘. A deal could be on the cards if Madrid were to lower their transfer demands.
