Is there more to Valencia's firm Mosquera price than meets the eye?

0 16

Arsenal’s bid to sign Cristhian Mosquera from Valencia has slowed, with the Spanish club standing firm on their €20 million valuation and no new contact made in over a week.

The 21-year-old defender has made it clear he wants to join Arsenal, and his representatives have already reached a verbal agreement on personal terms.

However, talks between the two clubs have yet to progress since Valencia rejected the Gunners’ last offer, which was believed to be in the region of €12 million.

Mosquera, a Spain Under-21 international, is entering the final year of his contract at Mestalla. He recently turned down a renewal proposal, signalling his desire to leave, but Valencia remain reluctant to sanction his departure for anything below their asking price.

The situation is in a holding pattern. With Arsenal involved in different transfers to shore up the team, the club has shifted focus to other priorities, leaving Mosquera and his agent Sergio Barila waiting for updates.

Despite his contract situation, Valencia have not softened their stance.

Internally, the club must now decide whether to push once more for a contract extension or prepare to cash in — either from Arsenal or another suitor such as RB Leipzig or Barcelona, who have both been linked in recent weeks.

There is still belief within Arsenal’s camp that a compromise could be found. A bid closer to €15 million may tempt Valencia, particularly given Mosquera’s insistence on leaving and the risk of losing him for a reduced fee next year.

On the pitch, Mosquera impressed last season with a 91 percent passing accuracy and a strong physical presence. His ability to operate across the backline has caught Arsenal’s eye, with the club identifying him as a long-term deputy to William Saliba.

For now, however, the deal remains unresolved. Time is running out for Arsenal to strike an agreement, and without a fresh bid, the player may be forced to stay put for another season or consider alternatives if Valencia opt to re-engage on contract talks.

The coming days could prove decisive, but unless Arsenal return to the table with improved terms, their move for Mosquera risks being pushed further down the list of summer priorities.
