Arsenal have now "discussed" move to sign £52m winger, 20 goals & 7 assists last season - report
Arsenal have discussed a move for Atalanta star Ademola Lookman during the summer transfer window, according to The Athletic.
The Gunners are planning to make multiple additions to the forward department ahead of the 2025/26 campaign.
They are already in advanced negotiations to sign Sporting CP striker Viktor Gyokeres.
Rodrygo, Noni Madueke and Eberechi Eze have also been named as targets, and The Athletic now claim that Lookman is an option.
The Gunners have “discussed” signing the Nigerian ace but have been unwilling to match Atalanta’s valuation, as things stand.
Lookman could re-emerge as a key target for Arsenal
The 27-year-old signed for Atalanta from RB Leipzig three years ago and has since developed into one of the best forwards in the Italian top flight.
Lookman made the headlines with a hat-trick in the 2024 Europa League final against Bayer Leverkusen. He continued his bright form last season.
The Charlton Athletic graduate registered 20 goals and seven assists from 40 appearances.
He has predominantly played as a second striker at the Bergamo outfit, but can also operate from the left or right wing with relative ease.
His versatility is a clear reason behind the Gunners’ pursuit, but Atalanta’s £52 million valuation is proving a stumbling block towards a potential deal.
Arsenal seem reluctant to offer more than £43m, but could revisit their interest later on in the transfer window if they can’t secure a deal for their top target.
Real Madrid’s Rodrygo is the priority choice to bolster the left wing, which has been a problematic position, but Arsenal have no plans to pay £77m for him.
The Gunners are ready to play the waiting game in the hope that Madrid lower the price tag. In case they don’t, Lookman could re-emerge as a realistic target.
The Gunners are in the mix for Madueke, but he is a specialist right winger. Lookman has a bias for the left flank and would fit like a glove on the left wing.
