PSG now in talks with reps of 'very complete' star, who considers Arsenal 'his absolute priority' - report
Arsenal could face competition from Paris Saint-Germain to sign one of Real Madrid’s prized assets this summer.
The Gunners have already bolstered their squad with a couple of signings.
Kepa Arrizabalaga and Martin Zubimendi have joined the club from Chelsea and Real Sociedad respectively.
There could be several more additions to the squad, and Real Madrid’s Rodrygo is reportedly one of the top targets.
Arsenal have already held ‘preliminary talks’ with the entourage for the Brazil international.
The club recently received a further boost. Rodrygo considers Arsenal ‘his absolute priority‘ if a deal can be struck with Real Madrid.
ESPN Brasil have now brought a fresh twist to the story by claiming that PSG have made contact with the player’s representatives.
Arsenal should have an edge over PSG in Rodrygo pursuit
The Gunners are pushing for an upgrade on the left wing. Rodrygo would be a fabulous acquisition as the club seek to lift the Premier League title next season.
The 24-year-old has managed 25 goal contributions in all competitions for Madrid this term. Out of this, 12 have come from as many games on the left flank.
Rodrygo has not had a regular run on the left wing due to Vinicius’ preference for the role. He has generally operated from the right wing, where he is less effective.
The Brazilian star can establish himself in the position at the Gunners, considering Gabriel Martinelli and Leandro Trossard have been pretty inconsistent.
Rodrygo, who is ‘very complete‘ according to Mikel Merino, is presently valued at £78 million by Los Blancos, but Arsenal are prepared to wait for a discount.
We believe Arsenal should have a clear advantage over Les Parisiens in Rodrygo’s pursuit as they can guarantee him regular playing time from the starting XI.
At PSG, he is unlikely to displace Khvicha Kvaratskhelia on the left flank. Ousmane Dembele is likewise an assured starter from the false number nine role when fit.
With big talents such as Bradley Barcola and Desire Doue competing for a spot on the right wing, Rodrygo may have to accept a rotational role at Les Parisiens.
If playing time plays a major role, Arsenal should easily secure the signature of Rodrygo. The attacker also favours a move to the Premier League if he leaves Madrid.
