"Watch out": Arsenal have joined Man Utd in race for 25-goal star, £45m clause in his contract - report

0 4

Arsenal have joined Manchester United in the race to sign Fiorentina striker Moise Kean this summer, according to Calciomercato.

The Gunners are keen on landing a new striker during this summer’s transfer window and have been linked with two names in particular.

RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko and Sporting CP’s Viktor Gyokeres are the main targets, and it has been reported that the latter could be preferred.

Amidst this, Calciomercato have mentioned a fresh name in the form of Fiorentina’s Kean.

Kean has been on the radar of Saudi outfit Al-Qadsiah, and they recently offered a lucrative salary of £13 million per year to make the switch.

Al-Qadsiah have now turned their attention to Atalanta’s Mateo Retegui, but the Italian striker could still leave La Viola in the coming days.

Kean has a release clause worth £45 million in his contract, valid until July 15.

Inter Milan consider him as a potential replacement for Marcus Thuram, who could be on the move after a possible dressing room fall-out.

However, Calciomercato claim that the Nerazzurri should ‘watch out’ for Arsenal and United, who have made ‘some contact’ with Kean too.

Kean speculation could be agent-driven

Arsenal are searching for a marquee striker to lead the attack. Sesko has been the manager’s preferred target, but there has been no progress regarding a deal.

The Gunners have made some headway in the pursuit of Gyokeres instead.

The Sweden international has opened the door for a transfer, and sporting director Andrea Berta believes he could make an instant impact.

Amidst this, Calciomercato have claimed that there has been ‘some contact’ with Kean, but we believe the speculation could be agent-driven to secure him a big move.

Kean had a good debut campaign with Fiorentina, scoring 25 goals from 44 appearances. With a relatively decent release clause, his agent seems keen on pushing for an exit.

The Italian does not appear interested in moving to Saudi. It was recently reported that United are ‘in the picture‘ for the striker. Arsenal are now mentioned as potential suitors.

In our view, it is unlikely that Kean will move to either of these clubs. The 25-year-old had a dismal spell with Everton in the past, scoring just two goals from 32 league outings.

He struggled to cope with the higher intensity and physicality of the league, and could face a similar concern, considering the Serie A is more tactical and less intense.

Kean may have scored 25 goals last campaign, but also missed a staggering 34 big chances.

He averaged only seven passes per outing, losing possession on 10 occasions. Arsenal would ideally prefer a striker who is better with the ball at his feet than Kean.

Kean’s record in the English top flight may probably hamper his prospects of returning to the Premier League with an elite club before his buy-out clause expires.
