Arsenal are now "aiming" to sign 20-goal attacker for £43m - report

0 1

Arsenal are likely to focus on bolstering their frontline options in the coming weeks.

A marquee striker is the priority target for the Gunners, but a versatile winger could also be signed.

According to Corriere della Sera (page 6), Arsenal are now ‘aiming’ to sign Atalanta forward Ademola Lookman.

The Gunners are ready to spend £43m million with ‘some bonuses’ for the Nigerian star, but his club want more.

The Bergamo outfit are looking for £52m to part ways with the former RB Leipzig man.

Lookman could be a backup target for Arsenal

The Gunners are likely to pursue a new left winger this summer amid the inconsistency of Gabriel Martinelli and Leandro Trossard.

Real Madrid’s Rodrygo is the prime target for manager Mikel Arteta, but the Brazil international has yet to open the door for a new challenge.

Los Blancos reportedly value the winger at £78m. Arsenal are prepared to play the waiting game and hope to sign the Brazilian for a lower fee.

In our view, Lookman could be the backup target for the Gunners if it becomes clear that Rodrygo won’t be leaving Madrid this summer.

Lookman had a fabulous 2024/25 campaign with Atalanta, scoring 20 goals and providing seven assists.

He has generally played as a second striker for the Italian club, but has a genuine bias for the left flank and prefers to cut inside regularly.

Arsenal could pursue a deal for Lookman if a move for Rodrygo does not materialise.

£43m seems a pretty fair value for the versatile forward, who can operate anywhere in the final third.

Lookman will turn 28 in October, but could be in his prime for the next three or four years at least.
