Revealed: What Arsenal are planning to do after Real Madrid value Rodrygo at £77m - report
Arsenal are prepared to take a slow approach in their pursuit of Real Madrid winger Rodrygo this summer, according to Cadena SER.
The Gunners are prioritising a marquee striker during the transfer window, but they are also open to bolstering their wide attacking department.
Rodrygo is one of the top targets for the north London giants, and manager Mikel Arteta believes he can be a superstar, playing from the left wing.
Cadena now report that Rodrygo’s representatives have been in contact with English clubs since May.
However, Arsenal are the only club with Champions League status that have shown an interest.
The Gunners are also ‘taking it easy’ and want to assess manager Xabi Alonso’s stance on Rodrygo.
Rodrygo has been a regular starter under manager Carlo Ancelotti in recent years.
The situation has changed under Alonso. The 24-year-old has managed just 88 minutes at the Club World Cup and has been an unused substitute twice.
Madrid value the Brazilian at £77 million, which is considered ‘unfeasible’ in England. The Gunners are watching closely to see if the price will be lowered.
Cadena SER claim that Rodrygo is more likely to leave Madrid towards the transfer deadline.
Arsenal are right with their approach on Rodrygo
Rodrygo managed 24 goal contributions from 51 games for Madrid during the regular season.
Out of that tally, he registered 12 goal involvements from as many appearances on the left wing.
It is quite clear that he is comfortable from the left flank, but he may not get a regular opportunity in the position at Los Blancos due to the presence of Vinicius Junior, who is an undisputed starter when fit.
At Arsenal, Rodrygo could make the position his own ahead of Gabriel Martinelli and Leandro Trossard. The Brazilian possesses strong distribution skills. He completed 91 percent of his passes in La Liga last term.
Rodrygo has also caught the eye with his dribbling and direct running. The former Santos graduate only squandered one big chance during the recent league campaign.
Arteta believes he can get the best out of the winger on the left wing. The onus is now on Rodrygo to push for an exit and in turn force Madrid to lower their valuation.
Arsenal seem prepared to play the waiting game to sign him for a discounted fee.
