Arsenal poised to make €25m offer to sign Spanish star, Andrea Berta wants him - report
Arsenal are poised to sign a new central defender during the summer transfer window.
The Gunners were keen on landing Dean Huijsen from Bournemouth earlier this summer, but the Spaniard ultimately chose to join Real Madrid.
Valencia’s Cristhian Mosquera has emerged as the perfect alternative for the club, and Superdeporte (page 6) now provide an update on the player.
The Spanish outlet claim that Arsenal made an opening bid worth €15m, which Valencia rejected.
The London giants are ready to make an improved offer of €25m, which will include €3-5m in add-ons.
Sporting director Andrea Berta is leading the charge, having previously had the centre-back as a priority during his time at Atletico Madrid last year.
Mosquera would be a top-notch signing
The 21-year-old has evolved into a quality centre-back during his short time at Valencia. He has made only 90 competitive appearances. The majority of those have come in the last two seasons.
Mosquera has had a brilliant fitness record, having missed just three league games in this period. Last season, the Spaniard won an impressive 70 percent of his ground duels in La Liga.
This was the highest percentage for any player in the league (100+ contested). The defender also made five recoveries and three clearances per appearance, with 1.5 successful tackles.
Mosquera is predominantly a left-sided centre-back and could be seen as Gabriel Magalhaes’ backup. However, he has also operated from the right centre-back role for Los Che.
Towards the end of last season, the defender demonstrated his added versatility by starting at right-back. Mosquera has huge potential, and a deal could be sealed in the coming days.
Valencia have not given up on keeping him with an improved contract beyond June 2026, but as things stand, they are likely to cash in rather than lose him on a free transfer next year.
