‘Surprise’ - The Times journo claims Arsenal now want to sign 24y/o who’s in the ‘top-four strikers’ in PL
Arsenal have identified Chelsea striker Nicolas Jackson as a summer transfer target, according to Sunday Times journalist Duncan Castles.
The 24-year-old has spent two seasons in the Premier League with the Blues and appears to have caught the attention of the Gunners.
Arsenal want a new number 9 and are finding it tricky to agree a deal for RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko or his Sporting CP counterpart Viktor Gyokeres, and they are now looking at other targets.
Jackson has emerged as a target for the North London club, and Chelsea could be willing to sell him for the right price, with the Senegal international currently valued at €66 million.
“One more name that I have become aware of this week, which may come as a surprise, which is Nicolas Jackson, the Chelsea striker,” Castles said on the latest episode of The Transfers Podcast released today.
The former Villarreal striker ended last season with 13 goals and six assists in 36 appearances after bagging 17 goals and six assists in 44 matches during his debut campaign in England.
Jackson left Spain following 13 goals and six assists in 48 games, and while he is not the most prolific number 9 out there, he brings hardwork and pace to the table.
Former Chelsea striker Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink recently placed the Arsenal target alongside Erling Braut Haaland, Ollie Watkins and Alexander Isak in his top four strikers in the Premier League, and it seems Gunners manager Mikel Arteta agrees.
Most Arsenal fans will likely have reservations over the deal, but it cannot be completely ruled out if the club fail to land any of their top targets in the position.
Jackson is far from the finished article and still has the potential to become a top goalscorer under the right tutelage, and it will be interesting to see whether the North Londoners would take the punt on him.
