Arsenal ready to pay £70m to sign Benjamin Sesko, but there is a fresh concern - report

0 19

Arsenal are poised to sign a marquee striker during this summer’s transfer window.

The Gunners dropped points on 18 occasions in the Premier League last term. It contributed to a disappointing second-place finish for the third season running.

The club desperately need a marquee striker to lead the line. The Sun claim that manager Mikel Arteta is keen on signing RB Leipzig star Benjamin Sesko.

Arsenal will reportedly pay £70 million to land his services, but they now face a stumbling block with the player’s camp due to the huge salary demands.

According to The Sun, Sesko’s entourage are looking for a contract much higher than the Gunners plan to pay. This may force a change in direction for the club.

The Gunners could turn to Sporting CP star Viktor Gyokeres if they are unable to secure a deal for Sesko.

Arsenal need to put an end to the striker saga

The Gunners finished 10 points behind Liverpool for the Premier League title last term.

The Reds have already shown huge ambition in the transfer market with the signings of Jeremie Frimpong and Florian Wirtz. Milos Kerkez is expected to join the Merseyside outfit soon.

Manchester City are also expected to improve on last season. They had a big winter spending spree and have added Rayan Cherki, Tijjani Reijnders and Rayan Ait Nouri this summer.

Arsenal have made just one acquisition in Real Sociedad midfielder Martin Zubimendi. The onus should now be on bolstering the attack with a marquee striker and a left-sided winger.

Sesko is the number one striker target for the manager, but Arsenal can’t afford a prolonged saga until late July or August, considering they have a difficult start to the new league campaign.

The Gunners need to integrate their new striker into the squad right from the pre-season tour. If the club can’t find an agreement on salary terms with Sesko, they should turn to Gyokeres.

The Swede has already given the green light for a dream transfer. He is prepared to ‘wait until the end‘ for the Gunners. Arsenal should consider pursuing a deal for the 27-year-old instead.
