Arsenal could now make offer to sign £9.4m Premier League captain, 5.7 recoveries/game - report
Arsenal are poised to make several signings during the summer transfer window.
The Gunners finished 10 points behind champions Liverpool in the Premier League last term.
Arne Slot’s side have bolstered their squad with marquee names this summer, and Arsenal must invest ahead of next season.
They have already agreed to sign Real Sociedad star Martin Zubimendi, but another holding midfielder could also be acquired.
Jorginho recently left on a free transfer to Flamengo, while Thomas Partey is also likely to depart when his contract expires on June 30.
The Gunners have failed to agree terms over a renewal with the Ghanaian thus far, and he could be on his way out next month.
In that case, Arsenal would require an experienced cover for Zubimendi. Mirror claim that Brentford’s Christian Norgaard could be on their radar.
The 31-year-old has been a key player for the London side for the past six years and was promoted as their captain during the summer of 2023.
Norgaard has two years left on his contract, but could be allowed to leave on a cut-price deal, suppose he is keen on a big move in the final phase of his career.
Norgaard would be a good acquisition
Zubimendi is expected to be Arsenal’s first choice in the number six position next term.
With Declan Rice and Mikel Merino preferred in central midfield by manager Mikel Arteta, the club may want a solid backup behind Zubimendi.
Young sensation Myles Lewis-Skelly can comfortably play there if required, but Arteta could continue with him at left-back, where he has been a revelation.
Norgaard would be a good acquisition for the Gunners. He has vast Premier League experience and has been a consistent performer for Brentford over the years.
He averaged 2.3 tackles and 1.9 clearances in the English top flight last season with 5.7 recoveries. He won an impressive 62 percent of his aerial challenges.
Norgaard also chipped in with five goals and four assists from 34 league outings.
The Dane’s positioning is another big strength of his. He would be a good understudy for Zubimendi, and they could play together on some occasions too.
He is currently valued at £9.4 million by Transfermarkt. Brentford could demand at least £15-20m, including add-ons to consider his sale, in our view.
Arsenal are also interested in Sevilla midfielder Lucien Agoume, but they could opt for the experience of Norgaard if the Bees open the door for his transfer.
