Setback for Arsenal's attack! Stellar winger stays put as his club eyes other departures
Arsenal look increasingly likely to miss out on Morgan Rogers, with Aston Villa determined to keep hold of the highly rated winger.
The 22-year-old enjoyed a standout 2024–25 season, registering 14 goals and 15 assists across all competitions to establish himself as one of the most productive wide attackers in Europe.
Rogers’ form has attracted interest from several top clubs, including Chelsea and Arsenal, both of whom are on the lookout for attacking reinforcements this summer.
Mikel Arteta is understood to be seeking a new striker as a priority, but Arsenal remain open to signing a wide forward to add further depth to their frontline.
Despite their interest, Aston Villa have no intention of selling Rogers at this stage and are prepared to resist offers for the England international.
According to Mail Sport, Villa are bracing for enquiries but have not listed Rogers among the players they are open to selling.
Financial pressures related to the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR) are likely to force Villa into at least one major sale before 30 June.
Douglas Luiz’s move to Juventus last summer helped balance the books, and a similar move may be needed again to remain compliant.
However, the Midlands club appear to be targeting other names to generate income, with Leon Bailey attracting attention from Saudi Arabia and Jacob Ramsey reportedly available for around £40 million.
Ramsey, a product of Villa’s academy, would represent pure profit on the balance sheet if sold, making him a more strategic option for PSR-related offloading.
Left-back Lucas Digne is also facing an uncertain future, with only a year left on his deal and interest from Atletico Madrid mounting.
Goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez is another possible departure, having shown emotion on the final day of the season and now attracting attention from Manchester United and clubs in Saudi Arabia.
Despite all this movement, Rogers remains firmly part of Unai Emery’s plans.
That stance makes Arsenal’s task of signing the winger all the more complicated, with Villa showing little sign of softening their stance.
The Gunners were also rebuffed in a January bid for Ollie Watkins, and this latest development could point to another frustrating chase involving a Villa star.
Unless there is a dramatic shift in the coming weeks, Rogers will be staying put.
