Arsenal's number 9 hunt intensifies! European club plots successor deal for prized attacker

0 1

Arsenal may have received a timely boost in their pursuit of Benjamin Sesko, as RB Leipzig begin making preparations for life after the Slovenian striker.

Reports in Germany indicate that Leipzig are in talks with Brazilian forward Romulo, with the Goztepe striker emerging as their top replacement should Sesko depart.

Journalist Sacha Tavolieri claims negotiations are already under way, and the 22-year-old Brazilian is reportedly keen on a move.

This development signals that Leipzig are increasingly open to sanctioning Sesko’s exit, provided they secure a replacement first.

Sesko has long been on Arsenal’s radar, and interest in him appears to have reignited with clarity emerging over his future.

He scored 21 goals in all competitions last season and remains one of the most promising young forwards in Europe.

Despite a lucrative offer from Saudi club Al Hilal, Sesko has rejected the opportunity to join Aleksandar Mitrovic in the Middle East, making it clear that he prefers to remain in Europe.

Al Hilal had made Sesko their second-choice target after failed attempts to land Victor Osimhen, but the striker was unmoved by the financial incentive.

His rejection of Saudi Arabia has strengthened Arsenal’s hopes of landing him, especially with competition from elsewhere appearing to fade.

RB Leipzig missed out on European qualification, prompting a likely summer of key departures including both Sesko and attacking midfielder Xavi Simons.

Although Leipzig have yet to formally approve Sesko’s sale, their active pursuit of a successor points to an eventual transfer.

Arsenal’s interest dates back over a year, and discussions over a move were held last summer before stalling.

Mikel Arteta’s side have kept tabs on both Sesko and Gyokeres, and while the Sporting CP forward offers a more prolific return, his higher valuation makes Sesko a more accessible option.

Gyokeres has reportedly turned down Manchester United and is holding out for Arsenal, but Sporting’s president insists the striker will not leave for less than €80 million.

By contrast, Sesko’s price is expected to be more modest, and his age and experience in the Bundesliga add to his appeal.

Arsenal are still in the market for a new striker after going two transfer windows without securing a frontman.

With Leipzig already moving on behind the scenes, the path to bringing Sesko to north London may have just become a little clearer.
