How Arsenal are now reacting to Zubimendi’s comments & fears over missing out on another Alexander Isak revealed
There is little concern within Arsenal about Martin Zubimendi’s recent comments, according to the Independent.
The Real Sociedad midfielder cast new uncertainty over his future after praising new Real Madrid manager Xabi Alonso and revealing why he uploaded beach photos of himself in Spain amid claims he was scheduled to undergo a medical and join the Gunners.
However, Arsenal are interpreting his comments as just the sort of typical media duty talk that comes out of an international break, with Zubimendi still expected to ultimately sign for them.
A deal to bring the Spain international to the Emirates Stadium club is all but wrapped up, but the North Londoners believe missing out on RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko now might be like missing another Alexander Isak.
The Gunners had the Newcastle United hitman on top of their wishlist for a while, but the Sweden international will not be leaving the Magpies after they secured Champions League football for next season.
Isak has notched 48 Premier League goals over the last two campaigns, and while he will not be joining Arsenal this summer, they believe Sesko is capable of a similar impact in the final third in the English top-flight.
They have to decide which number 9 they want between the 21-year-old Slovenia international and his Sporting CP counterpart Viktor Gyokeres, and Sesko is currently their favorite as he is considered as having a higher ceiling than the Swede.
Arsenal do not want other suitors to pip them to his services, but internal discussion over his price, which could rise to £75 million, remains.
The Gunners may be left with no choice but to meet the demands of the Bundesliga club, and they will be hoping he turns out to be a great signing after his return of 39 goals since the beginning of 2023-24.
