"I'm ready for something new": 25-year-old reveals he is preparing to leave Arsenal

0 0

Arsenal are poised to part ways with multiple players during the summer transfer window.

The Gunners have recently confirmed that Kieran Tierney, Jorginho and Raheem Sterling (loan) are leaving at the expiry of their contracts on June 30.

Alongside them, there could be several more exits. The club have already agreed to offload Marquinhos to Brazilian outfit Cruzeiro for £2.5 million.

Albert Sambi Lokonga is another player, who is widely expected to head for the exit door.

Arsenal recently triggered a one-year extension on his contract to keep him until June 2026.

Speaking to La Dernière Heure, Lokonga has now admitted that it is unlikely that Sevilla will buy him for £10.1m following his season-long loan.

He said: “No, €12m isn’t possible. It’s also up to them to negotiate with Arsenal and show they want me. But I haven’t spoken with Sevilla yet.

“There are still many questions at several levels within the club. It’s not ideal on paper, but I know Sevilla wants to move forward. I like the fact that we have to build something.”

The former Anderlecht midfielder added that it will be difficult to stay at Arsenal next season. He is waiting for something interesting to come up during the summer.

He added: “It’ll be difficult, I think. I think I’m ready for something new. For now, I have no idea [on his future]. I’m not closing any doors while waiting for something interesting to come up.”

Arsenal set to part ways with Lokonga

The Gunners purchased Lokonga from Anderlecht for £17.2m four years ago. He arrived on the back of a productive campaign, where he impressed with his distribution and duel-winning ability.

However, the Belgian has failed to replicate the same level of performances in the English top flight. Lokonga had an injury-plagued loan spell at Luton Town (2023/24) where he showed glimpses of his ability.

Sevilla decided to sign Lokonga last summer with an option to buy, but he managed just 1474 minutes in La Liga due to four separate hamstring injuries.

The Andalusian outfit are unlikely to trigger the buy clause, but Arsenal will be hoping to cut their losses on the midfielder. They may have to accept a lesser fee than £10.1m to part ways with the Belgian.

The Gunners face a similar situation with midfielder Fabio Vieira. He was purchased for a hefty £34.2m from Porto, but has failed to cope with the higher intensity and physical demands of the league.

Vieira has notched up five goals and five assists from 39 appearances on loan at Porto this term. Arsenal may have to accept a reduced sum between £15-20m to end their association with the 25-year-old.
