‘Currently in advanced talks to sign at Arsenal’ - Fabrizio Romano says Berta is closing in on recruitment
Former Granada sporting director and former Juventus head of scouting, Matteo Tognozzi, is currently in advanced talks to join Arsenal, according to Italian journalist and transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.
The Italian will be linking up with Gunners sporting director Andrea Berta, and he could be joining them in the coming days as plans for the summer transfer window take shape.
Tognozzi moved to Granada in October 2023 after six years at Juve, and while it was reported that he would be returning to the Serie A club as their next sporting director, it appears he is heading to Arsenal.
The 38-year-old has huge experience when it comes to recruitment and scouting, and Berta is leaving no stone unturned in a bid to turn the North London club into perennial Premier League winners again.
Tognozzi helped Juventus sign the likes of Matias Soule, Dean Huijsen and Kenan Yildiz, and was extremely close to signing Erling Braut Haaland and Jude Bellingham for them before they both moved to Borussia Dortmund.
He left Granada in February 2025 and will now be looking to bring his expertise to Arsenal as manager Mikel Arteta looks to mount stronger challenges across the Premier League and Champions League next season and going forward.
The Gunners will need top players and a quality squad depth if they are to become a force to be reckoned with again after going five seasons without a major silverware, and recruiting Tognozzi to work under Berta could be huge given the good job he did at Juve.
They have been linked with plenty of brilliant players this summer, but they have yet to complete any deal, with Real Sociedad midfielder Martin Zubimendi recently pouring cold water on reports that he is set to undergo a medical imminently.
