Arsenal poised to offer £63m to sign 26-year-old star after contract finalised - report

0 1

Arsenal are poised to sign a marquee striker when the transfer window reopens this summer.

The Gunners have had a frustrating Premier League campaign. They have registered only 68 points after 36 games played.

The club have scored 22 fewer goals at the same point compared to last season amid injuries and indifferent form.

Arsenal must improve next season, and A Bola (page 2) claim that they are favourites to land Viktor Gyokeres from Sporting CP.

There is ‘already an agreement’ with the striker over an annual net salary worth £7 million for the next four to five seasons.

The club have also ‘set aside’ £63 million to purchase the 26-year-old from the reigning Portuguese champions.

Chelsea have previously been mentioned as a threat to Arsenal as they could pay closer to the striker’s £84m release clause.

However, A Bola have dismissed it by stating that Gyokeres has been convinced by the project presented by the Gunners.

Arsenal have upper hand in Gyokeres transfer race

The Sweden international has developed into one of the most fearsome strikers in world football.

He registered 43 goals and 15 assists from 50 appearances last season for Sporting CP. The striker has proved that it was no fluke with an even better campaign for the Lisbon giants.

Gyokeres has bagged 52 goals and 13 assists from the same number of games this term. Arsenal seem convinced he is the right player to lead the line for next season and beyond.

Chelsea have recently thrown their name into the hat, but Gyokeres is reportedly ’emotionally and financially’ convinced to join the Gunners during the summer transfer window.

The former Coventry City striker has a shot-to-goal conversion rate of 29 percent, which is very impressive. He has also excelled with his chance creation, hold-up play and work rate.

His attributes make him an upgrade over Kai Havertz and Gabriel Jesus, but the big question remains whether he can prove his credentials with the transition from the Primeira Liga to the Premier League.

Liverpool’s Darwin Nunez has looked a shadow of the player from his Benfica days. There are some lingering doubts over Gyokeres, but Arsenal will hope he can make an instant impact.
