Sky Sports name 2 new players Arsenal now want as Gunners linked with them for first time
Arsenal are monitoring Rosario Central centre-back Juan Gimenez and Real Madrid Castilla defender Victor Valdepenas after adding them to their transfer shortlist, according to Sky Sports Germany journalist Florian Plettenberg.
The duo are being linked with the Gunners for the first time, and while it is unknown whether they will be targeted in the summer transfer window, they have been identified as potential transfer targets for the future.
Arsenal are not the only club keen on 19-year-old Gimenez as he is also on the radar of Bundesliga club Borussia Dortmund and other top clubs in Europe.
The right-footed Argentina youth international has also caught the eye of Manchester United, with his confidence when playing out from the back a trait which has impressed both them and the North London club.
The 6ft 1in has also lined up as a defensive midfielder, and Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta would love to sign such a player.
6ft 2in Valdepenas is a left-footed defender who has played at left-back and on the wings for Real Madrid Castilla, and a move to England could appeal to the 18-year-old if promotion to the first-team in Spain is not forthcoming.
The North London club believe he has the potential to become a star in the future, and they will not hesitate to move for him if it becomes clear that he could leave Madrid.
Their sporting director Andrea Berta has connections in Spain having spent 12 years with Atletico Madrid, and convincing Valdepenas to join Arsenal will not be tricky should the Gunners want him.
Securing the services of the Spaniard and Gimenez before they break into their respective senior teams could save Arsenal plenty of millions in transfer fees, and they need to be taking such risks after ignoring the likes of Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak when he was younger and cheap.
