Arsenal suffer huge injury scare in training today as attacker spotted leaving early after knock - Video
Arsenal had an open training session at the Emirates Stadium today ahead of their Premier League game against Newcastle United on Sunday, and fans were briefly left with their hearts in their mouths after an injury scare.
As shared by Gunners fan, Dan Critchlow, on X, Gabriel Martinelli initially left the session early after going down with a problem, later returning to take part in a small practice match and was seen running fine.
However, his earlier withdrawal could be a cause for concern as he appeared to be in pain before shaking it off.
Martinelli finished the 2-2 draw against Liverpool as a striker after Leandro Trossard was withdrawn and Mikel Merino got sent off, and he could be featuring there even though Kai Havertz trained with his teammates today.
Arsenal need the Brazilian available and manager Mikel Arteta and the supporters will be praying he stays fine after today.
The Gunners are currently second in the Premier League table ahead of the last two games of 2024-25 but are in need of two more points to secure a place in the league phase of next season’s Champions League.
Declan Rice was also in training today after missing the Liverpool trip due to a suspected muscle issue and fears emerged yesterday that he could be out of the season, while Trossard was also available.
The duo and Havertz could feature against the Magpies or return to action against Southampton on the last day of the campaign, and Arsenal need a solid finish to the season following a disappointing 2024-25.
Injuries did damage to the ambitions of the North London club this term as they could have fared better domestically and in Europe had the likes of Gabriel Jesus, Gabriel Magalhaes, Havertz and Bukayo Saka been available all through the campaign, and they need quality squad depth and plenty of luck next season.
